Star anise is a spice made from the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree Illicium verum. It’s aptly named for the star-shaped pods from which the spice seeds are harvested and has a flavour that is reminiscent of licorice. Antheol is the chemical compound that gives these seeds their distinct aroma and flavor.

How to use?

An evergreen takes a minimum of 15 years to produce the seed. It is considered as one of the ‘Five Chinese Spices’, because of its strong taste and spicy flavour.
